Thanks to Erica Krom, some adult students at KBS experimented with the “pouring technique” of creating abstract paintings. An abstract is an art form where the emphasis is placed on the arrangement of forms, lines and colors to produce a desired effect. Generally, there is no recognizable objects in the work unless it is semi-abstract.

With the pouring technique, colors are chosen first; yet, there is little control of where the thin acrylic paint settles on the surface. Pouring medium is a liquid that helps the flow after it is mixed with the acrylic paint.

At our next UCAA Ulster County Art Association meeting, Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2018 at 7 pm at the Senior Center, 207 Market Street, Saugerties, NY – Erica Krom will demonstrate the pouring technique for abstract painting. Members may bring supplies to try it. Guests are welcome to attend and watch the procedure. FMI: Call 845-246-8835 Kristy Bishop, UCAA president.
