Instruction

My job as teacher is to provide a safe haven of peace and harmony for students while they develop their skills in art class. Often, I demonstrate step-by-step painting and allow the student to follow my example of techniques. Once they feel more confident, they begin to establish their own unique style of painting.

Art critic and editor of Art Times Raymond J. Steiner wrote to my students on May 15, 1993: “…Several of you are already on your way to having your own vision and your own style. This, I must say, is a tribute to your teacher [Kristy Bishop] since it is obvious that she is not attempting to enforce her style upon you. (This was made clear by the fact that your teacher was kind enough to hang a few of her own paintings to show the difference. It proves how proud she is of you since she hangs her work side-by-side with yours.) Quite often, art instructors impose their styles and methods on their students and it is refreshing to see that Ms. Bishop is not trying to “clone” herself through you.”
