“Self-Portrait 2018″ Oil on Wood 9″x12” by Kristy Bishop (Slim with an auburn wig)

At the Reception of this art show, I will speak about my art work at 1 pm sharp on Sept. 4, Saturday . The reception will be held outdoors 1 – 2 pm. The library opens at 10 am on Saturday and will require masks and a limited number of attendance at one time. The library close promptly at 2 pm. Please view the show before 1 pm if possible.

In September of 2018, I was diagnosed with cancer.

The good news is that I am cancer free at this time. Great credit goes to my oncologist, Dr. Andrade and radiologist Dr. Torres of Kingston, NY (ten miles from my studio/home in Saugerties.) There were many doctors and nurses involved in the process of destroying this “evil monster” as some called it.

Being a person of Faith, my number one source of healing and peace came from God. I felt His presence all through the procedures as He guided the minds and hands of all of those medical technicians. I did not feel sorry for myself or blame God for the situation that I was in.

I believed that I had a purpose in life which involved passion for art. I wanted to help others develop their passion for art through teaching or show them through my art how I saw their passion in many different ways. This show (Sept. 1 – Oct. 28, 2021) will be the beginning of a number of shows on this subject, God willing. To be continued…

Saugerties Library Hours: Mon. 10 am – 8 pm; Tues. 10 am – 6 pm;  Wed. 10 am – 8 pm; Thurs. 10 am – 6 pm; Fri. 10 am – 4 pm and Saturday 10 am – 2 pm.

"Paired Heads" Little Shop of Horses by Equine Artist : Jean Haines (c) 2020
“Plum & Pumpkin Ponies” Oil on Canvas 16″ x 20″ ” Little Shop of Horses by Equine Artist : Jean Haines (c) 2020

Lifelong equine artist of Kingston, NY, Jean Haines will give a presentation (speaking about her artwork with examples on display) and a demonstration of her horse art called “Scribble Technique” on Tuesday March 3, 2020 at 7:15 pm at the Saugerties Senior Center, 207 Market Street.

Having drawn horses since earliest childhood memory, she can draw, sculpt, and paint horses realistically from imagination. Over the past thirty years, Jean Haines has gradually developed a more fun and spontaneous method. After a few minutes of creating random abstract scribbles, a horse-like shape or gesture will appear to her, which is developed into a recognizable horse image. The end result depicts flowing energetic horses that are a pleasing balance of horse essence and color.

The public and guests are welcome to attend this presentation. A short UCAA business meeting will be held at 7 – 7:15 pm. Jean Haines  will provide a program  at 7:15 pm and end at 7:45 followed by a Q & A and refreshments. Free Admission!

The Ulster County Art Association UCAA will feature a presentation by Scott Thomas Balfe concerning the his oil painting techniques on Tuesday Oct. 1 at 7 pm at the Senior Center, 207 Market Street, Saugerties, NY. He was born in Cornwall, NY in 1958. Scott is a self-taught artist who began oil painting at the age of 8. His grandmother gave him a beginners paint set. In his teens, he began to paint wildlife. In 1989 Scott went to a workshop in Alaska to work with four professional wildlife painters. There, he learned the importance of painting from life. Upon his return he began to paint in the field religiously. He learned his own handwriting in oil paint.

The fact that his work emulates an early American style came naturally to Scott. He has studied their work and paints the same local haunts. He usually paints from a toned canvas, creating unity and color harmony from the very beginning of each piece. Scott’s work is in many collections both nationally and internationally. His work has been shown in Manhattan, Cape Cod, Saratoga, N.Y. and the Albany area in N.Y.

Guests are welcome to attend this UCAA meeting. FMI: Kristy Bishop UCAA president: 845-246-8835

As a cancer survivor, I am very grateful to be able to facilitate this yearly event on June 9, 2019.  I am honoring my best friend Phyllis McCabe, Photographer Laureate of Kingston, NY with a special tribute. She prays for me everyday. I am positive that these prayers and those of others have been instrumental in my treatments for colon cancer with Dr. Hal Buch, Dr. Riolin Andrade, Dr. Camillo Torres and Dr. Michael Moskowitz in Kingston, NY. My younger and older students have submitted artworks dating back to June 2018 so that we could have a large showing at this event. Since I have not been able to teach my regular art classes since August 2018, I am looking forward to being fully recovered by the end of 2019.  FMI: 845-246-8835
